Tailored to U7-U8 players, Rhode Island Surf's Junior Academy Select program serves as a stepping stone between our Junior Academy and full Regional/Elite teams. Participating in this team environment provides players with proper preparation both technically and tactically to excel entering their U9 year. The Junior Academy Select program is for players with a passion for soccer who are looking for increased structure, technical training, game awareness, and high quality coaching in a fun, challenging, and engaging environment.
Each team has a dedicated Rhode Island Surf coach focused on both individual and group development when building towards our U9 player and team standard. Players participate in weekly team training, NECSL league play, and end the Spring season with tournament play.

Dan Yarumian is a vastly experienced soccer coach with over 16 years of work developing players across all levels of the game, 10 of which have been full-time. His coaching journey began at 18 years old, starting at the town level with Coventry before moving into club soccer with a string of Rhode Island and Massachusetts programs. He joined Rhode Island Surf at its inception in 2020 before taking a year off in 2024, after which he returned as our Junior Academy Director.
Throughout his career, Dan has coached players from U7 through U19 in both boys’ and girls’ programs, as well as middle school and high school teams. His experience also includes ODP coaching and specialized goalkeeper training. Having played in various men’s leagues after high school, he brings both a player’s perspective and a coach’s knowledge to his sessions, with a focus on developing well-rounded athletes and fostering a love for the game.
